Good morning everyone,
I am honored to stand before you to speak about a day of immense humanitarian significance — World Red Cross Day.
Every year on May 8th, we celebrate this day in honor of Henri Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross and the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
He was born on May 8, 1828. His compassion and courage gave birth to the idea of a neutral aid organization in times of war.
World Red Cross Day is not just a date on the calendar. It is a reminder of the power of humanity, volunteerism, and empathy.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works tirelessly across the globe. It provides aid to people affected by conflicts and disasters.
Their mission is simple yet powerful — to protect human life and dignity during emergencies.
The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement operates in over 190 countries. It is one of the world’s largest humanitarian networks.
They respond to crises like floods, earthquakes, wars, and epidemics. They also promote health awareness and blood donation campaigns.
This year’s theme, “Keeping Humanity Alive“, encourages us to act with compassion in all circumstances.
Whether it’s a global pandemic or a local disaster, the Red Cross is always there first and leaves last.
The most inspiring part of this movement is the volunteers. Ordinary people doing extraordinary work. They offer time, energy, and even risk their lives.
In India, the Indian Red Cross Society plays a vital role. It assists in relief work, first aid training, and community health programs.
We can all support their work by donating blood, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness.
Let us remember, the Red Cross does not see religion, race, or nationality. It sees a human being in need — and responds with kindness.
As we observe this day, let’s reflect on what we can do to help. Small acts of kindness, too, can have a big impact.
In conclusion, World Red Cross Day is not just a celebration. It is a call to action. A reminder that humanity must come first, always.
Let’s salute the heroes in red. And let’s pledge to carry their message of compassion forward.
Thank you, and Happy World Red Cross Day!
